Over 10,000 jobs available at Career Fair at Suntec City next month
By Derek Cher, Channel NewsAsia

SINGAPORE : More than 10,000 jobs will be available at the annual Career Fair, which will be held early next month at Suntec City.

This is double the number of jobs offered at last year's fair.

The engineering sector saw the biggest jump in job availability, and it hopes to recruit more than 1,000 workers from the fair.

The Economic Development Board will also be there to encourage students and job seekers to take up engineering as a career.

It says there is still demand for engineers in Singapore.

Lee Ying Adams, Director of Resource Development Division at EDB, said: "Over the last few years, we are beginning to see a shift in the mindset of potential students seeking engineering as a course.

"The traditional mindset is one that is engineers do nothing but fixing nuts and bolts. But really now, engineering is evolving into a much more savvy and knowledgable workforce, which is able to cope with much more complex issues arising from industry and businesses.

"We would like more students to take up engineering as a career and there is a whole host of opportunities in various industries, sectors." - CNA
